NHS North East London Cancer Alliance funded project 2024/20

Cancer Grass Roots Awareness Project - London Borough of Newham

We have recently been awarded funding for 2025/6 to continue our work from the previous project we ran in 2024/5. We are looking forward to delivering awareness and exercise sessions including health walks, community events and workshops. Our programme will be coming soon.

We welcome enquiries from potential venues, community groups and organisations in Newham to work with. If you would like us to deliver to your group or organisation, please get in touch to discuss

Simple breath work practice

This short 3 minute video with Karen introduces breath work to assist in reducing stress and calming anxiety, ideal as support for anyone going to cancer appointments or waiting for test results.

In 2024/5 Uzmaa ran face to face sessions in various venues :

East Ham College ; Salvation Army Wellbeing Cafe;

Canning Town Library; Jack Cornwell Centre

Ibrahim Mosque ; Katherine Road Community Centre; Atherton Leisure Centre.  

We will be running sesssions at more venues in 2025.

Coming soon - Health walks and community gardening sessions

We'll be joining with BEAT ( Beckton Environmental Action Team) to provide information, resources and support around skin cancer awareness and how getting active can reduce your risks of some other cancers at some of their Beckton based sessions.

Prostate Cancer awareness and support free online sessions

Online sessions ran in March via zoom. We will be running more sessions as part of Urology Awareness Month in September as well as pelvic floor health courses for men.  

If you would like us to deliver a session specifically to your group or organisation, please get in touch 


 Dave can explore symptons, tell you more about the PSA test which can help wth early detection and help rule out cancer if you are concerned about symptoms (which could be linked to a number of things other than cancer) and look at some simple exercises to improve and maintain pelvic and prostate health . 


In the meantime - you could watch our short video outlining simple pelvic floor exercises which could help improve continence and weak bladder issues in a matter of weeks.
